Bahrain Mirror: Six political societies have called on the government of Bahrain to release prominent political dissident and former Secretary-General of Wa'ad, Ibrahim Sharif.
In a joint statement on Saturday, December 23, 2023, the societies confirmed that "the Public Prosecution's decision to detain Ibrahim Sharif for 7 days pending investigation came in contradiction with the freedom to express an opinion on issues related to public affairs, which is guaranteed by the Constitution of Bahrain."
They pointed out that Sharif's arrest "is related to a unanimous position of political and civil forces and all national and Islamic figures, which is the rejection of our country's joining any alliance or coalition that aims to support the Zionist enemy directly or indirectly or help it in committing its daily crimes against the resistance and our Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank."
They also noted that Sharif's arrest "also contradicts the official stances announced by the government in support of the Palestinian people cause."
"This decision is completely contrary to the positions of the people of Bahrain, who protest daily against the criminal aggression against our people in Gaza and all of Palestine, and express their rejection and denunciation of this aggression and continue to provide all support and assistance to back the just Palestinian cause," they further added.
The political societies called on the government to "withdraw its agreement to join the suspicious coalition (against Yemen), which may put Bahrain's security to danger and only serve the interests of the criminal Zionist entity."
