The High Criminal Court adjourned the case of 138 defendants until January 11 to listen to the attesting witness. The defendants were accused of establishing and joining the "Zulfiqar Brigades", collaborating with Iran's Revolutionary Guards, blasting 19 bomb attacks and planting hoax bombs in several areas across Bahrain.

New whereabouts appeared in the case of the forcibly disappeared citizen Sayed Alawi Al-Mosawi. Two eyewitnesses who saw him in the Criminal Investigation Department and Jaw Prison said that he is living in harsh conditions. An eyewitness who was held next to Alawi’s room, stated that he heard him screaming “you killed me”. Alawi was addressing his torturers.

The second high appeals court accepted the objection in form but refused it in content and upheld the appealed verdict that sentenced a Bahraini woman to one year in prison over publically insulting the judiciary authority.

The Fifth High Criminal Court sentenced a defendant to 7 years in prison and another one to 5 years and ordered the confiscation of seized items over the case of planting a hoax bomb.

The Associated Press (AP) reported on Monday that “Human rights groups are sharply criticizing a Bahraini appeal court's ruling upholding a nine-year prison sentence against the country's leading Shiite opposition figure [Sheikh Ali Salman].”

France said Monday (December 12, 2016) that it “notes with concern the upholding of the nine-year prison sentence for al-Wefaq’s secretary-general, Sheikh Ali Salman, whose movement – the main opposition party – was dissolved in July by the courts.”

Bahrain’s High Criminal Court commuted the verdict issued against 17 appellants, reducing the 5-year jail term of 7 appellants to 3 only and the 3-year jail term of 9 others to 2. The court also amended the sentence issued against the first suspect from 8 to 6 years in prison.
