Bahrain Mirror: Sea freight prices in Bahrain jumper to a record high due to the operations carried out by the Yemeni armed forces against Israeli ships in the Red Sea, those heading to the occupying entity, and the American-British aggression against Yemen.
The CEO of the Mars Freights shipping agency, Adel Turk, told the Al-Bilad newspaper that the price of a 40-foot container rose from $2,000 to nearly $5,000 in a short period, noting that "the increase in prices included various lines, even those coming from China, as companies now prefer to avoid passing through the Arabian Gulf or areas near the Red Sea."
He pointed out that "90% of international shipping companies currently avoid passing through sea routes through Bab Al-Mandab."
He explained that "shipping companies changing shipping lines and switching to sailing through the Cape of Good Hope will increase the transportation period by about 25 days compared to passing through Bab Al-Mandab and the Suez Canal, and thus there will be an increase in the cost of fuel and operational expenses in general."
Adel Turk drew attention to the fact that "global shipping companies prefer to stay away from operating to the Gulf to avoid any tensions, which affects the supply of maritime shipping capacity."
