Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) expressed its concern about the continued suffering of prisoners in Bahrain to obtain their natural rights inside the prison, such as the right to treatment and receiving necessary health care, one of whom is political prisoner Ayoub Adel Ahmed, who is detained in Jaw Central Prison.
The center said that it had received a statement that the prison administration "was late in responding to Ayoub's request to transfer him to the hospital recently after the inmate confirmed that he urinated blood and suffer severe pain in his abdomen and other health symptoms."
"Two days after the inmate's continuous request to transfer him to the hospital, Ayoub was transferred on the third day and was admitted to the intensive care upon his arrival for 21 days due to the delay in providing health care to him, which led to kidney failure and other diseases, according to the diagnosis of the treating doctor."
The center revealed that "prison officials did not give Ayoub's family any information about his presence in the intensive care, despite the family's review several times with the prison administration," noting that "prison officials did not allow him to file a complaint about the delay he suffered from in receiving treatment and medical care."
The BCHR reminded the authorities that "the health care is a right guaranteed by international law" and that "violating this right goes against the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, or the Nelson Mandela Rules," which affirms that prisoners who need specialized treatment must be transferred to specialized institutions or civilian hospitals," recalling that "international human rights mechanisms consider imposing restrictions on elderly or sick prisoners to be ill-treatment."
The Bahrain Center for Human Rights called on the Bahraini authorities to "release Ayoub and all sick detainees to ensure that they receive the necessary health care and that official oversight bodies carry out their tasks and investigate cases of medical negligence, and hold negligent persons accountable."
Ayoub Adel Ahmed, 31, is serving prison terms that exceed 90 years over separate cases related to the political crisis in Bahrain.
