Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini authorities held the family of human rights activist Yousef Al-Houri in Bahrain for days. Al-Houri, who resides in Germany, his wife and five children hold the German nationality, however, his wife and two of the children also hold Bahraini nationality.

German MP Gökay Akbulut reported in her article that Al-Houri's wife and children were held and harassed while being in Bahrain.

Gökay noted that the human rights situation in Bahrain is catastrophic. Human rights activists are being persecuted and arrested. Despite this, the West tends to look the other way. She added that the expatriation of opposition figures is the authority's strategy to secure power.

The German MP stressed the need for diplomatic support for those affected, even if they hold other nationalities besides the German one, as the support currently provided is inadequate.

It is noteworthy that the Bahraini authorities revoked Al-Houri's nationality over his anti-regime activism and his human rights participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
