Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain Society of Sociologists denied being aware that one of its members met with the US ambassador and civil society organizations official at the US State Department, stressing that it is not responsible for the consequences of the meeting.
The society stressed in a statement (Tuesday, February 15, 2022) that it was not told about the meeting and that its member Huda Al-Mahmoud was not assigned to represent the society at the meeting, or to speak on its behalf. The Board of Directors was surprised by what was published.
The new US ambassador met at his home (February 9, 2022) with "Ahmed Al-Khuzaie, Ousama Al-Bahrana, Hussein Al-Rubaie and Huda Al-Mahmoud" as representatives of civil society, and discussed with them various political issues, most notably the political isolation law, according to local media outlets.
Since the news was published, Bahrain's interior minister issued a press release attacking the United States and accusing it of involvement in the 2011 protests. Local newspapers launched a campaign against the US ambassador and figures participating in the meeting.
