Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court sentenced Zakia Al-Barbouri to five years in prison on Wednesday (February 6, 2019), also revoking her citizenship in politically-motivated case.
The authorities claim that Al-Barbouri was "transporting materials used in explosive devices" to an alleged cell trained in Iraq.
In the same case, the fourth high criminal court in Bahrain sentenced seven defendants to life imprisonment, two defendants to 10 years imprisonment, another to 5 years in prison, and the eleventh defendant to 3 years imprisonment. The court also fined the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh defendants 500 dinars and the seventh, eighth, tenth and twelfth defendants 100 dinars, ordering the revocation of all the defendants' nationalities but the twelfth.
The authorities based the grounds of the charges on the defendants' confessions. Confessions; however, are extracted under duress and torture, according to international human rights groups.
