Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Government said in its third National Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights Report to be discussed in May 2017 that it is facing challenges represented in attempts by some to exploit human rights issues, unfairly, as a front to achieve their narrow political aims.
The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdulla Al-Doseri, said during a press conference today about the 30-page report that the accusations brought by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) previously against Bahrain, lack credibility and authenticity, adding that they don't rely on reality.
He added that the government didn't receive full cooperation from the OHCHR's side in the framework of the technical cooperative program that ended in December 2016.
Al-Doseri further stated "we held a successful event in the framework of the program last May, and we encouraged the OHCHR to hold other events, but it didn't. However, we didn't stop communication with any UN party."
The report highlighted that Bahrain continues to respect, reinforce and protect human rights, despite the challenges it faces, mainly the tense regional situation, and the increased risks posed by extremism and terrorism, and their effects on Bahrain.
Al-Doseri denied any cases of enforced disappearance in Bahrain and claimed that there is legal and legislative regulations and guarantees for those who are arrested, and that what is occurring is merely a delay in contact between the arrested and their families.
