Bahrain Mirror: The Chief of Bahrain's Terrorist Crimes Prosecution Attorney General Ahmad Al-Hammadi said that the Bahraini Fourth High Criminal Court issued a verdict on Tuesday (June 28, 2016) sentencing 16 defendants to 15 years in prison, over charges of attempted murder of policemen, arson, acquiring arms for terrorist purpose, assembling and rioting.
The Public Prosecution relied in their conviction on verbal evidence, including the attesting witnesses' statements, and the defendants' confessions, as well as medical reports of victims and report on firearm.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
