Bahrain Mirror: The Chief of Bahrain's Terrorist Crimes Prosecution, Attorney-General Ahmad Al-Hammadi, stated that the Fourth High Criminal court sentenced on Monday (June 27, 2016) suspects charged with joining "Saraya Al-Mokhtar", acquiring and using explosives and weapons without a license for a terrorist aim, attempting to blast a bomb for a terrorist aim and collecting money for a terrorist group for a terrorist aim. The court handed down 15-year jail term to 3 suspects, fined the second suspect 200.000 BD, revoked the citizenships of all the suspects and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
The prosecution alleges that it relied on the evidence in the testimonies of the witnesses and confessions of the suspects as well as the medical and technical reports. Consequently, the suspects were referred to the fourth criminal court and an arrest warrant was issued against the fugitive.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
