Appeals Court Sentences Bahraini to 3 Months in Prison for Insulting Parliament on Instagram

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Third High Criminal Appeals Court, presided over by judge Rashid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa with the memberships of judges Saber Jomaa and Bader Al-Abdullah and Mubarak Al-Anbar as secretariat, sentenced a defendant accused of insulting the Parliament to 3 months in prison.
The Public Prosecution accused the suspect of publicly insulting the Parliament in July 2015.
The General Directorate of the Anti-Corruption & Economic & Electronic Security Department had filed a complaint to the Public Prosecution, based on the Parliament Speaker's request, demanding that criminal proceedings begin against the owner of Instagram account for making defamatory the Parliament. After investigating about the owner of the account, it was revealed that he posted insulting comments on Instagram.
The defendant said he posted these comments on his personal account as a reaction to a parliament decision, adding that he commented on a photo about passing the budget by the Parliament members accusing them of not feeling the sufferings of the citizens and not fulfilling the promises made after guaranteeing their positions in the parliament.
