Bahrain Mirror: The Chief of Bahrain's Terrorist Crimes Prosecution, Attorney-General Ahmad Al-Hammadi, stated that the Fifth High Criminal court convicted on Thursday (May 5, 2016) 9 defendants over charges of attempted murder of policemen, detonating a bomb, explosives possession, assembling, rioting and acquiring Molotov cocktails. The court sentenced 3 defendants to life in prison and 6 others to 10 and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
The authorities claim that on March 22, 2014, the suspects took part in an assembly of about 80 persons and attacked policemen with Molotov cocktails, metal rods and stones; hence, the police dealt with them taking legal measures. While the police were dealing with the protestors, a bomb blast occurred, injuring one police officer. The officer was transferred to the hospital for treatment.
The prosecution alleges that it relied on the evidence in the testimonies of the witnesses and confessions of the suspects as well as the medical and technical reports. Consequently, the suspects were referred to the supreme criminal court which held several hearings in the presence of the defendants' lawyers, whom it allowed to enter pleas. According to the prosecution, the court also provided all the legal guarantees for the suspects.
