Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court sentenced on Thursday (April 28, 2016) dissidents to life-imprisonment over charges of "acquiring explosives" and stripped a number of defendants of their Bahraini citizenship.
The Public Prosecution said that the fourth criminal court sentenced 8 suspects to life-imprisonment, one to 1 year in prison and 20 others to 5 and revoked the citizenships of 2 defendants.
The court also handed down a life-imprisonment sentence to 3 defendants and a 3-year term to 2 others, also fining each one of them 500 BD over "acquiring and manufacturing explosives".
The prosecution said it relied on hearsay and technical evidence, including the attesting witnesses' testimonies (police officers).
International organizations including Human Rights Watch accuse Bahrain of using torture to force suspects into making confessions that incriminate them before the courts.
