Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Bahrain's Public Prosecution, Mohammed Al-Hazaa, said that the unit received during September 25 complaints, including 8 torture related allegations and 17 claims of ill-treatment practiced by police, and has begun taking investigation measures.
Concerning a number of cases, he added that the SIU listened to 67 witness testimonies and interrogated 30 suspects from the police department, while refering 4 victims to a forensic doctor to have them examined and determine the nature, cause and time of the injury if found.
On a separate note, the SIU challenged the sentence issued by the high criminal court on September 2, 2015, acquitting an officer and 4 policemen of the charges of torturing a suspect to extract a confession and information about a drug dealing charge raised against him, and the hearing was scheduled to be held on December 10, 2015, before the first high criminal appeals court.
