Bahrain Mirror: The World Resources Institute puts Bahrain on top of the water-stressed countries list.

The institute explained in a recent study about the most likely water-stressed countries by 2040, according to the economic Argaam website, that Bahrain is the most country threatened by water stress in the Middle East, due to the climate changes. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia came in 9th place.

The study that included 167 countries relied on four factors: Rate of consumption, water supplies, rate of consumption with respect to water supplies and the expected seasonal changes every 10 years. The study discovered that 33 countries, including 14 countries in the Middle East, are most likely to be water-stressed, which will negatively affect national security and economic growth in these countries.

With regional violence and political turmoil commanding global attention, water may seem tangential, the study highlighted.
As for other Arab countries, Lebanon came in the 11th rank, Jordan in the 14th, Libya 15th, Yemen 16th, Morocco 19th, Iraq 21st, Syria 25th, Algeria 30th and Tunisia 33rd.
